"It’s Pakistan, Stupid"
As "unintended consequences" são sempre imprevisíveis, a hipótese do nascimento de comunismo e fascismo e nazismo saído da "WWI" teria sido motivo de riso e ridicularizado se algum pacifista ou mero realista o mencionasse, por exemplo, para (tentar) impedir que os ingleses se juntassem à carnificina (Chuchill nunca o deixaria).
Na WWI juntou-se o confronto entre Impérios e os seus complexos-militares-industriais com a vontade de desenhar uma nova ordem mundial mais progressista pela mão de Woodrow Wilson. Mau resultado.
Hoje, a observação da escalada numa selffulfilling profecy do crescendo do extremismo de um lado, e o histerismo-securitário-e-fobias-várias no outro, tende a concentrar as atenções nos "spots" mais óbvios, parte dos quais nem representam perigo relevante.
Antes tinhamos o conflito israelo-palestino. Depois ganhamos, com a pressa em combater Saddam e defender um status quo - parece que foi um coronel britânico a desenhar os países (o Koweit foi sempre disputado pelo IRaque - nascido na guerra que "deu tudo errado" (sempre a WWI), o qual tinha suficientes inimigos na zona para o conterem (Irão, Síria, Sauditas).
E assim cresce a presença de tropas "Ocidentais" na zona, no Iraque (com bombardeamentos constantes durante 10 anos sem que um único caça fosse beliscado -tal era o perigo de Saddam!) e com Sauditas (não foi muito bom para a imagem da monarquia... but what the hell ... se vierem a cair será mais uma vitória da democracia e das mulheres).
Depois, com o Iraque II, a destruição naõ só do"ditador" mas de um regime e exército, a tentativa de reconstrução no meio daquilo que já se sabia ser a complexidade dos ódios primários próprios de quem vive no deserto mas que deixam indiferentes os teóricos (e warriors) de sofá no meio de Manathan. Resultado, no Irão, o que já era criticado mas reformista Presidente no Irão é substituído-eleito por um mais secular e imagine-se, sem papas na língua.
Quem se mostra o aliado mais realista e até mais razoável - um ditador. Ironia. O problema é que tal como ou talvez pior por ser um república, o regime vai encontrar dificuldades em sustentar-se no meio da escalada alimentada também pelo nossos próprios extremistas-ao-centro.
